Unit OverviewIn this 3rd grade unit, students will become reporters and investigate the life of Eleanor Roosevelt and the importance of the declaration of human rights. Literacy standards make up the backbone of this unit plan with asking and answering questions to demonstrate understanding of a text. Though the unit is divided into 4 lessons, it is mostly independently driven with the exception on an introductory lesson and daily mini lessons. Students are charged with exploring a website personally created for this unit. The website guides students along each content area with summative activities per section. Depending on the technology limitations of your school, this can be done individually with conversation groups at the end of each section, or in pairs with more ending whole group discussions. There is also a SMART board interactive lesson I created to reinforce topics learned in the website. At the conclusion of all learning sections a cumulative project has student creating their own article to be featured in a class newspaper.
